It will take time to implement the new e-vehicle policy in the national capital. The old policy will continue till the new policy is implemented. The policy was discussed in the cabinet meeting on Tuesday, but the draft could not be approved. In such a situation, it is believed that many changes are yet to be made in the draft prepared regarding the policy. Only then will it be brought to the cabinet.

Confusion over subsidy
Last year, people could not get subsidy on purchasing e-vehicle due to AAP government. At the time of the former government, the money of 48 crore subsidy of e-vehicles purchased in the financial year 2024-25 is outstanding. Due to lack of subsidy, it also affected the purchase of e-vehicles in Delhi.
Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh said that the previous government did not release the subsidy amount on EV procurement, due to which the consumers could not get the rights till date. However, it has not been reported yet when the outstanding subsidy will be released.
Reduction in sales of e-vehicles
The EV policy was implemented to promote e-vehicles in the capital. The registration of e-vehicles has declined continuously in Delhi. If compared to 2023, 18687 vehicles have been registered in 2024. A total of 6,28022 vehicles were registered in Delhi in the financial year 2022-23. 6,70140 vehicles were registered in 2023-24.
It has reached 7,20812 in 2024-25. Whereas the former government aims to make Delhi the capital of e-vehicles. Under this, the government was targeting 25 percent of the total registration vehicles by December 2025, but at present the situation is that the total e-vehicle number in Delhi is only 11 percent.
